Dog Training in Dartmoor
Real-World Behaviour Modification & Obedience Training That Works
Take the Lead Training offers expert dog training in Dartmoor and the surrounding South Hams area. Led by Jamie Penrith — a nationally recognised specialist in predatory behaviour, recall training, and off-lead control — we provide 1-to-1 training for dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. Whether you’re struggling with livestock chasing, lead pulling, or poor recall, we offer clear, honest, and effective help.
Behaviour Problems We Help Solve
We don’t offer gimmicks or quick fixes — we work directly with you to resolve real behaviour issues using experience, clarity, and welfare-focused methods. Common problems we address in Dartmoor include:
- Chasing sheep, deer, livestock, or cars
- Poor or unreliable recall
- Livestock worrying or killing
- Obedience issues and over-excitement
- Lead pulling or lack of control
- Responsible use of e-collars (ethically and professionally)
Livestock Worrying & Predatory Behaviour in Dartmoor
Dartmoor’s rural surroundings, farmland, and common grazing areas mean livestock encounters are common — and serious. Dogs that chase or attack sheep can face devastating consequences, legally and ethically. We offer expert training and intervention for dogs with high prey drive or a history of livestock chasing.
Whether your dog has:
- Already chased or harmed sheep or deer
- Shown obsessive behaviour around movement or scent
- Come from a rescue or working background
- Struggled to focus off-lead in high-distraction areas
We can help you build control and safety — without suppressing your dog’s drive, but by giving it structure and clarity.
Recall Training & Off-Lead Control
Recall isn’t about treats and hope — it’s about trust, control, and proofing in real-world environments. If your dog runs off in fields, ignores you around distractions, or can’t be trusted off-lead, our structured recall training is designed to change that — fast.
We also offer professional, ethical e-collar training, which can be the difference between freedom and long-term restriction for some dogs. All training is carried out 1-to-1, with full guidance and support for you as the owner.
